I personally have used the freshwater version of Bio-Spira. I can say that it absolutely worked in the 3 tanks I started with it.

Tetra safestart seems OK, at least better than nothing...though I'd like to see/do a proper test on it.
I always recommend it above Nutrafin Cycle and API Stress Zyme anyway...(I've tried Stress Zyme and it never worked for me).

I've used Safestart in tanks at the LFS that were going through mini cycles and it cleared up by the next day, could be coincidence though.

PFK did an article on 'Safestart' when it first appeared and they found it still exposes fish to Ammonia and Nitrites; although it does cycle the filter, you're still damaging the fish.

When i was setting up my first tank a few years ago, that stuff saved me.

I don't need it any more but a bunch of newbies will most likely make the same mistake i did and be wrecked without it.
