Yeah, just visit your LFS and ask about their policy.
I have 2 different LFS's who are willing to take our excess of molly fry. One took 12 last time, and I'm bringing maybe 25 into the other one on Monday. (Who to choose to keep out of the 30 fry!! They're all so cute).
Both said they couldn't pay me anything (and I get nervous when asking and forget to inquire about a store credit). But we have no room for them and these are good stores. I know they'll find them good homes. One is a strictly aquarium and pond and fish store run by two guys who really know their stuff and are very nice. They have fish ponds throughout the store, too. And take really good care of the fish.
Yes, it would be nice if I could make back some of the money spent on fish and supplies--but at least I'll be passing them on to caring, responsible people.
One quick anecdote: When I dropped off the dozen mollies at the lfc during the summer, the guy said I could come visit them if i wanted. I thought that was nice, but 1) I was a little too embarrassed to do that, and 2) I didn't want to encourage my attachment to them. But, when I went into the store for supplies a few months later, I made my way over to the molly tank, and lo and behold, if I didn't recognize some of the smaller multicolord spotted dalmations in the tank--they looked just like the ones we had at home from the same (litter?).. That made me happy to see them there--and that they'd at least, LIVED THAT LONG!!
