if you mean L numbers then it starts at L001 & currently stops at L 400 then you also have LDA numbers wich start at LDA 001 & currently stop at LDA 076

I recently interviewed Julian Dignall of planetcatfish.com, and when I asked a similar question he said -

"We know of around 730 described plecos and 150 Corys, even with the effects of extinction due to habitat destruction or degradation, there’s probably double that out there right now. "

Also don't forget several locarids have more than one L number, for instance, the zebra pleco.
