what plants would be ok in my tank and how many? the lights are on from about 10-12 and then it gets a little bit of direct some lite but mostly indirect and then the lights go on from 6/7- 10-11. and will by bns eat them?

BN's will sometimes eat some plants like amazon swords. I haven't had any problems with my BN personally though.

You can pretty much fill the tank with plants as long as they are all getting light, that is, dont let plants be overshadowed by other ones too much.
I'd personally onl'y ever fill half the tank with plants because then the fish have lots of swimming space. I fill the back with plants and have it ramping into the foreground.

I need to know what wattage your light is and how many US gallons your tank is to see whether it's adequate / whether you will need CO2. You will also do well to get fertilisers from the LFS.

the tank is 30 us g and i dont know what watt they are im not at home ill call my mum whan she getts back.

You have a fair amount of light for your tank. I would say you want to get plants that require a medium amount of light.

Click in my sig where it says "Plants and Cichlids" to get an idea of some plants that will be good in your tank with that amount of light.

my bns eat every plant! they ate my swords,vallis,and ate a huge amount of hydrilla overnight!....yikes

what once do you think would work best i have quite a few catfish and need plants they would hide in and i want some with big leaves for the female bettas to hide on.

Amazon Sword plants FTW!!!!

You could try a anubias as well.

Some easy mosses would be ok with BN's mine hasnt touched any of my plants and i have a fair few in there

ok ill have a look for sume. my tanks horrible it has all fake plants in it because i only set it up a month ago and needed it set up quick.

One thing i would say is plant heavily from the outset as the algae you will inevitable get into a competition for nutrients with the plants and you want to give the plants the best chance of winning

ive had a few BN's in a planted tank and never have they eaten the plants, they will only pick the algae off plants they shouldnt destroy them.

My Bn doesnt even bother with my plants, just sucks on the rocks/glass
