Hey, I have seen the elite 14 (14 litres), its made of plastic and comes with filter and set up chems. Does anyone think a heater could go in this tank and if so what fish?

Betta???

Andrew

Not really no. Bettas are designed to cope with low oxygen ( labyrinth organ ) , not miniscule amounts of water. Tanks of that sort are often just gimmicks designed to appeal to small children.

You could attempt shrimp or just possibly some sort of Micro rasboro.

Good stuff. A 5 gal will be MUCH easier to get equipment for, and the more water you have the easier parameters are to keep stable. The hex tank in my sig is 5 gals. £5 from a car boot sale in great condition, so don't just look for brand spanking new ones when bargains are lurking about :good:

Also, a lot of hex tanks like that have a gentle filter built into the lid, which is also fine for bettas.

awsome, the hex looks bigger than that lol

yeah, keeping the water parameters ok is so easy with my 90l tank so don;t know if i'll like having a smaller one.

I do 50% water changes every week on that Hex ( and on all my tanks ) and the parameters are great. I have ceramic media in the filter tray, topped with a layer of filter floss. Works perfectly.

Bettas will do great in an even bigger tank if you have room. A planted Ten Gal can be divided into two for two males, or kept whole for a group of females ( who are just as full of personality and very amusing to watch I find )

do you have to use opaque deviders to stop them stressing each other out?

It's best to do that yes. You can get the kits on Ebay. I believe it's Modaz on here who sells them.

Hi

Yeh Modaz sells them :good: They're called Penplax dividers and at first they are clear, but after a week or so they will become opaque. We use them all the time and never had a problem with them :good:

The smallest heater I could find a couple of weeks back for a hospital tank was the 50w bi-orb heater - tried a couple of LFS to find this one which is half the length of the usual ones
