I was planning on buying a 20 gallon - cause my other one broke . My boyfriends friends dad offered me their tank. I've seen it in their basement, it's a good size tank. I asked what size it was and they didn't know, they only know it's about a meter long :p and from mo own observations it's about a foot wide, maybe a bit bigger and more than a foot tall. So from research it's either a 30 gallon at 36x18x12 or a 40 gallon at 36x18x16. It doesn't really matter to me, I just want to know how many fishies I can fit in it :p I want to go on the low side of fish, 'cause I already have a platy and a molly who are gunna drop fry soon.

I'll be using the media from my 10 gallon holding to jump start the filter I'll be getting. I feel bad for my three guys now, all stuck in a 10 gallon :/

I was hoping to get:
Another 2 mollies (male and female) and another female platy to make 6 fishies, 3 of each. After that I'm assuming theres room for more - I'm gunna go by the circle of life, if the fry live thy live, if they don't they don't.
I was also hoping to get either some guppies - or some schooling fish - preferably the schooling fish.

So with 6 fishies planned and an unknown after that, how many of what kind of fish could I possibly get in future - after a cycling and such :p keep in mind I want beginner fishies that are colourful :p

There are a lot of tongues in your post?

Your going to need anywhere from maybe a little to actually quite a bit of cycling to get the tank going. And it could be bigger, if you havent measured it yet. 4ft is only just over a meter (120cm), and "about" a foot wide (my 4ft is 16inches), and more than a foot tall, (mine just under two, 21 inches). Thats 50.

Get some proper measurements so we know exactly how much water there is in the tank, and it will be much easier to advise on "how many fishies"! :) Your also likely going to need to increase the number of fish over a period of time, to give the filter time to catch up. (Thats if your current filter is up for the job?)

Have a look in the different sections of the forum or at your local fish store and see what you like and make a list (bigger the better as not all can be mixed) and we'll give you ideas on how to group them.

:)
