Lighting Issues

The floating plant in the picture is Salvinia natans, not duckweed (Lemna minor).

I`m a bit confused as to what your actual problem is. Are your floating plants dying, or are your plants in the substrate not getting enough light?

Dave.

The first batch i got died within 2 weeks and now i have got some more and but notice it blocks a lot of light, i was wondering if there is an underwater light i could use that would also be beneficial to my other plants.

an take the dolphin out Axle  its gonna get waaayyy too big for that tank :)

Its only a small one *blushes*
Oh bless ya Axle - dont put yourself down like that - besides its not size that matters (least thats what Ive heard :))

You used to be a lovely little shy girl....What happened? always lowerig the tone. Tut tut !

I`m not aware of any under water light, but it should be easy enough to keep check on the amount of floating plants so that enough light gets to your other plants.

Dave.

my gourami's do well enough without floating plants, as the tank is fairly well planted anyway.

how about taking them out all together and if you want to breed your gourami's move them into a smaller tank with no current so he can build a bubble nest?

I dont have a smaller tank, not yet anyways, and the Gouramis have no problems breeding, when i have the floaties in.

My tank is well planted but the Salvinia natans provide a nice place for the Gouramis to chill out and kick back. If they die off again in a few weeks, i will replace them with something a little more hardier.

there lots of submersable (sp?) lights on ebay, etc, the only floating plant i have had a problem growing was water lettuce- was a nice plant too :(

my gouramis also like hanging about in the wood that i have in the tank, it goes from one top corner to the floor.. mix that with the plants tha jambo keeps ripping up and heavan :)
