I went to LFS and said that they cant give me any benfecial bacteria for my fishless cycle. The worker said all the tanks a run on a huge filter, so they cant giv me any filter things, he said that you have to have fish to get plants, and he said the gravel doesnt have any bacteria in it because of the filter. I dont no, both petsmart and petco are the same what should i do for some beneficial bacteria. Any suggestions?

Plants you can have now and gravel does contain some bacteria, though most is in the filter due to the water flow through it. Can you get some filter media from a friend? Shame lfs's wont give media out, it could become quite a good side line, limited supply though.

well, of course they wont take apart the filter just to get some media. if you dont spend alot of money there, they dont really give you stuff for free

Funny you say that because ive spent over 500 dollars there this month purchasing a brand new 125 gallon tank and stand

Do they know that?

Can't you just go through the cycling yourself? It's more work, but it's also a way to get experienced with cycling and test kits if you are just starting out. (I can't tell due to the sig rules and what you have in your sig doesn't tell me everything about your stock and tanks. :dunno:).

Yea i can, but i heard that the cycling process is quickened and goes more smoothly with some beneficial bacteria added. I have had a 10 gallon and a 55 gallon before this new tank, so i have been doing this for a while, however this is a first for me in the fishless cycling department. I think im doing it right though, and the reason i wanted the bacteria was because in the articles about ifshless cycling it says it would help a lot to get some.

I have my old gravel from my 55 but i rinsed it in tap water (becuase it was sitting in an unfilled 55 for a few months), before i put it in? Does it still have any bacteria that could help in it?
