So i was smart enough to take my red tail shovelnose hybrid into the LFS and see what the owner would be willing to give for him. I was pretty set on giving him in no matter what, as I cant have a big enough set up currently, for how big he will be in the future. I did this 2 days ago, and all he decided to give me where two cory cats.... And he had them on sale for 2.50 a fish. But whatever i said, ill buy the other 3 and just accept it. Now i made it clear exactly what the fish was, and that it will eat other fish. I assumed he would listen, or even have that knowledge already being an owner. I originally purchased it at about 2 inches for $16 from another LFS, and when i took him in to this one he was about 7 inches. I went in today to see any new stock they had, and me and my girlfriend had to control our laughter. he had it labelled as $12.99 and as a LIMA SHOVELNOSE! i just shook my head in disbelief. To top it all off...He was in a tank full of young small gourami snacks. I just could not believe this. You would think being an owner, he would have a little more on the fish he is selling... Im still shaking my head 10 hours later.

Noooooooooooooooo... those poor gourami! :(

Unfortunately this happens waaaaay to often - to most LFS owners it's all about the profits, regardless of how they get there.

As said above - its an all too common situation all that can be done is to simply not use or visit the shop and hopefully they will realise whats happening when their customers stop coming along...

This is a very frequent situation so I think okay to discuss about a general sense but please guys dont name and shame shops.

Ya i really felt bad for those gourami, that alone blew my mind. But labeling it as a lima shovelnose, something that will max out at 2 feet, when its a red tail tiger shovelnose hybrid that can grow beyond four feet...

Thank you for refraining from naming the store.
