so ive read like a billion topics on this so far and the advice is really conflicting... really i doubt this topic will help but you never know lol

ive heard that these strips can damage fish health?? is this true or just health and safety gone mad lol i was hoping to get a strip like >>> THIS <<<< and just stick it to underside of my hood... im sure my corys would benefit from abit more light at nighttime as i only ever leave my main lights on from 12pm-7pm and its pitch black at 4pm these days lol

any thoughts etc would be helpful to me :good:

I have heard mixed stories as well, I guess it partly depends on the type of fish in there. Would be interesting to hear anyone's opinion on this.

I do not believe they harm the fish at all. I have been running a DIY set that I put in my hood for months. But the fish don't NEED them, of course. Think about their natural environment. They are used to having darkness half the day. I use my LEDs to give the fish a more gradual transition between light and dark in the early morning and late evening. They are only on for about 4 hours total. (and they look cool!) There is a video in my sig. showing the lights in action, plus a link to the DIY project.

Regarding the light strip you linked, I would worry about 24 LEDs being a bit of overkill. I only used 4 LEDs in my 18" hood, and they were plenty.

I bought a blue moonlight strip off ebay take a look andi find it works great.. It has 15 led's on it which was a little bright for my tank so i took black electricians tape and covered the middle section leaving 2 led's either side and put the strip between the light tube and the lid. looks great plus allows my clown pleco to come out and feed and we can still see him...
