Fish Fanatic
This is my first journal as well as my first attempt at setting up a decent sized tank without an excuse of being completely clueless about fish keeping.
Recap :
Last december, my gf wanted a betta fish for xmas, so I went and bought a small bowl, some food, dechlorinator and a betta fish. The poor thing didn't last very long, about a week later, he was dead and I didn't know why. Fast forward a couple months and my gf now wants goldfishes. We buy 2 and put them in the same bowl (great advice we got from the LFS there). A few days later, I realized they weren't going to make it in there, so I went and bought a 10 gallons... figured that was a big aquarium and they should be happy in there! Well, that didn't work very good either...One died and I returned the other to a different LFS. There, I bought a heater and 3 hardy fish to cycle the tank. And this is when I discovered this forum, finally managed to successfully cycle the tank and have been thinking of buying a bigger tank since.
Well, this day has arrived, we moved in a nice house with room for a big tank and yesterday, I went and bought a 2nd hand 4 foot 55 gallons with stand and a whole bunch of accessories for $250 which I think was a good deal.
I'm thinking of going with african cichlids as PH in my tank seems to settle between 7.6 and 8.0 and i'm not a big fan of plants yet...I want to put sand in there too and have a lot of shopping to do. I will order most of my stuff online, except for the fishes...so my final choice of setup will depend greatly on what I can find locally as far as fishes are concerned.
Now with the goods :
Sorry for the reflections in the pictures...
So here is the tank, the stand and some of the stuff it came with (heater, air pump, breeder box, fake plants and some ornaments).
The whole tank on its stand
Some stuff it came with
And some more...ornaments, etc...
I'm not in a rush, ideally, we'll repaint the living room before I fill it up with water...easier to move this way
Now feel free to give me some advice, i'll take all of it and do my best to successfully implement it. As soon as I buy new stuff, i'll keep this thread updated and hopefully, we'll have some fish within a month or 2!
Wish me luck!
