My tank has been stood empty for a few years and I'm setting it up again now. My external canister filter fires up just fine but as soon as I turn it on I hear a hissing noise and water seeps from between the filter base and where the main head of it fits on. It all seems to be sitting fine and I inspected the seal which also looks fine (no breaks or cracks). Any ideas?

hi mate, try rubbing some vasaline around the rubber ring on the bottom of the filter head.
i had the same problem with an old eheim and this sorted it,
let me know how it goes,
cheers

Hey thanks! I've given it a try and so far... No leaks! Thanks for the tip! :)

Yeah greasing the O ring usually works. Grease the O rings on the tap connectors if there are any too. If they have dried out whilst not being in use then you may be better off replacing them in the long run.
