My girlfriends dad has a real large pleco in his tanks he is about 10 inches long and 3 inches wide and he is bringing him to the lfs to swap him out as he only has a 3foot long tank. The problem we have is the net he has would not fit on the plecos head let alone the rest of him and i know he is rough and would get caught up in it. So how do we catch it and put it into the bucket we have to transport it the short distance to the lfs

Do you have a big jug? Or a large fish bag? Catch straight into that. Even a carrier bag would do at a pinch if it is just to transfer from tank to bucket. (wash it well in some tank water first - and use a plain one not a printed one)

Id just scoop him up directly into the bucket, less stressful for him that way.

How i catch mine is grab it by the headindex finger on the snout , the thumb and middle finger either side of the back of the head and lift, my one doe's not even twitch when i do this

put a container thats big enough to contain the fish in the tank , remove the water and as you do , guide the *big man* into the bucket/container, then put the water back in, if you have enough water carriers , that way your not grabbing the fish , and keeping stress levels for the old boy low[ ish ]
