What are these fish like with dithers such as rummynose, and emperor tetras? And what about with Dicrossus (checkerboards)? I'm considering a pair in a 5' 450L tank but don't want to regret adding them if they are going to cause too much trouble.
I've also got a lot of woodcats (tatia, centromochlus and spinipterus), a few loricarids and a couple of Hassars (dorads) which are the main inhabitants.
Thanks
Martin

I have had these in with rummy nose, no bother at all, I also have two spot bagrids in with them, they are very peaceful little cichlids :) hope this helps.

Bonzo you caught me up yet lol lol

Bit like yourself where do you start. 3x6x2x2, rio 400, 5'x18"x15" grow out tank, 2x36"x18"x15" grow outs and 3x24"12"x15" for free swimming oh and a trigon 190. All filled to capacity.

No, I'm not jealous at all. Much....

Congrats! I love Laetacara and the Dorsigera are so beautiful. I had a pair of L. Araguiaie that spawned in my community tank and their breeding colors were gorgeous. They were fantastic parents, and they moved their tiny fry to various places in the tank, making small dishes for them before the fry were free-swimming.

Mine, however, chased the apisto pair incessantly. No real damage, but a lot of stress. Are yours bothering your apistos or keyholes when they have fry? If not, are they wild-caught, and what size is the tank?

Mine spawned one after the other, pretty much.

Would love to hear an update!

Darn disaster :( the air powered filter I was using was too strong. I have used it for lots of other fry, but not dwarf cichlids :( (its not the standard sponge filter :() I have lost all the fry bar 1 in the fry tank, those left with mum & dad have also disappeared, not suprising as they are in a comunity tank. However the lone fry is doing well and feeding great. He now comes to my fingers as I go to feed him. I know its a male even though its only 2mm long because I removed the fry as I wanted to raise them as I am short on females, so I just know the lone survivor is going to be male!. Filter has been changed to a standard sponge filter and Waldo (you try finding a 2mm fish in an 18x12" tank lol) is doing great :)

For sure, but there is always next time :)

Magpie: They are in a heavily planted rio 180, no bother to the keyholes or apisto's loads of wood and hiding spots, the males are definately wild caught, the female I am not sure as she came from a LFS, a pain standing there to find a female out of a tankful lol

Hmmm... Maybe it's just the different type, or maybe your are just more tolerant. ;) Lucky you!

Good luck with Waldo!

Update: Waldo is doing great :) he is well fat because he is the only fish in the tank and trying to feed just one tiny fish the correct amount of food is impossible so he has plenty to eat. Looks like the parents are going to spawn again, both have their breeding colours, so hopefully all being well soon as they are free swimming I will try and move some in with Waldo so he has some company :)

Waldo is growing up nicely, and after starting to snack on my metae fry he got moved to a bigger tank, I say he convinced it was male because being the only survivor and me being desperate for a little girl. However upon moving "him" to the bigger tank, he is out and about and I can see a dorsal fin spot!! so maybe a girl after all :)

Waldo
