Just a quick one.

Bought what was described as a PAIR of Kribs from the Lfs on Friday, looked very happy together in their tiny tank, however got them home and all hell broke loose, he went completely bonkers, won`t leave her alone. Looks like he has taken residence in one of many caves and as soon as she gets close, bang, she certainly know he`s there. Occasionally he will go looking for her and chase her, looks like there is no physical damage and sometimes they will both be in a cave or flower pot together as if they have been there sinse they got engaged!!!

Concerned because it looks as if he catches her he might do some real damage.

Question: Should I take him back or will things calm down?

Thats quite normal, but your best getting a couple of pairs, so the fish can pair up then return the unwated fish if u care to do so.

As if a female dose not take to a male then se'll never be happy.
Their be happy with 2 tairs in a 4ft tank but not smaller as they like their space.

But give her a few days if she take to him then you may have baby kribs in 3 months if ur lucky.

Helter

Have only got a 30 gal at the mo, so there is not a lot of room to play with.

Would it not be better to get another couple of females and hope one of them takes to the male, or would three females be worse?

Would the female that I have be happy on her own for a while until I upgrade to a bigger tank?

I'll leave it if I'm sure she'll take to him soon, he's just trying to impress her.

Dont want to put any more in that size rearly

Ok, I think I will give them the benifit of the doubt and try and let them pair. The guy at the Lfs had said that it was a PAIR, but the he would he`s a salesman.

When I say he chases her I think that if he caught her he could do some serious damage, is that normal?

I bought a pair of Kribs and the same thing happened. I have the luxury or 2 tanks so I split them up, but as soon as I took the male out the female started getting hassel from my torpedo barbs (wierd), so she ended up in the other tank back with the male...best of mates now!!!

They can be very nippy fish and I think you should leave them be to hopefully resolve any problems, if it gets to the stage where the female has lost her colour and is in tatters (if you have room) get another couple and see how that goes, if you don't have the room then you should take them back...usually a single Krib wont be happy but it's up to you if you want to take 1 or both back.

Hope this helps.
Debbie

Guess u got them from Porton, their good there, been many times while passing

Thanks, debbie
Makes sense, thanks for the advise.

Gary.

Correct,
All of my fish have come from Porton.

Have not had a single problem.
Have recently lost six Tigers, but was not due to Lfs.

Juvi Kribs can get a tab aggressive towards femles. They generally grow out if it though.

If it does get to the point where the female is getting shredded id take them both back and request a pair and actually see the pair before taking them home. You will be able to tell a pair of Kribs easily as they generally will be sharing their hiding spot in the tank at the store.
