afternoon all i asked the question a few weeks ago about breeding kribensis and fry , i witnessed my breeding pair lay eggs in a ceramic pot then next moring watched as the hate the lot :( , is this natural or should there be something i should do ? cheers for the help Ian

If they're a new pairing or in a new setting then they tend to eat their first few batches. If something spooks them then this can also trigger them to eat them.

Feed them up with plenty of good quality food and then do a 30-50% cold water change and it will more than likely trigger a spawn. :good:

As already advised if they are young parents it may take a dozen lays before it suddenly clicks and they get it right! Also they will eat non fertilized eggs, or eggs that are going mouldy. Are you sure you absolutely sure have a pair ? - only they can be really hard to sex and a pair of females can pair up and act like a couple if there is no male and obvioulsy the eggs will not be fertilized!

i was told by the guy in the LFS that they are a pair and the pair do look slightly different i.i dorsal fins and 1 of them has a rounder/ plumper belly which goes very crimson every couple of weeks or before she is ready to lay

Sounds like a mature male ands female alright - they are only hard to sex when they are juveniles. They only way you can tell when they are young is the female will have a rounder dorsal fin that is transparent at the end whereas the male has a pointy one and a pattern all the way to the end.

Just a question of waiting and see then! Im sure you will get fry eventually although my kribs never managed to keep they half dozen they hatched every time alive beyond around a week.

ive just noticed 1 fry about 1" long hiding in some bushes and around 20 fry about 1/4" swimming around the gravel with both parents above them , keeping an eye on them and making sure they are safe and not eaten :)

It is time to start feeding your fry smithyif. Feeding is the main reason that I focus on livebearers rather than egg layers. Your fry will be too small to eat what I feed my newborns.

just to let everyone who is interested , my kribensis who were born around the beginning of december are now about 2 1/2" long and need to be rehomed or go to the LFS and exchanged , THANKYOYU ALL FOR THE , help , advise and comments
