I bought some fish from the LFS today, in one tank they had about 10 3" Ghost koi and some goldfish. 9 looked great, 1 had small growths on him as was a common ghost carp so wasnt as pretty as the other mirror ghosts.. I didnt see which one got netted but i bet you can guess when i looked after i left the shop

The lumps are small, with 1 on his lower lip, acouple on his tail and 1 just under his dorsel fin. Ive seen carp like this befor. esp the tail lumps that are a pinky colour and the tails look abit vieny.

Hes in isolation at the mo. What could this be

Tim

Do the lumps look like a cluster of berries or a cauliflower.
Any circling of white on the pink lumps.
Red veining can be septicemia.

Sheesh nowt like jumping to the extreme

Red veining in pond fish is quite often a sign of stress and/or bad water quality, I'ved they have come from bad water at the shop or ther ein bad water now. Either way get your water checked out for ammonia and nitrites.

The lumps.. do they look like lumps of candy wax on the fish, if it is there's nowt to worry about and this is carp pox. Several of my koi currently have it, I'm not treating with anything. As the pond warms up they will soon disapear.

Alternatively it could be some form of bacterial infection in which case a course of acriflavine will sort it out.

Thanks for the advise, Im going to try my best but hes not looking so great, siting on the bottom of the tank all fins limp, not eating.

Funny how the sickest fish in the tank in those sort of cases is the one your most likely to get because its too sludish to out manuvour the net like the others.

Lets see how it goes.......

Whoa....didn't spot that, koi do not fair well in tanks especially small ones. Koi are extremely messy fish so for them to do well in your tank you'll need very strong mature filtratin for them to thrive.

Have you had your water tested yet?

If not do a 30% water change regardless.

Any chance of some pictures?

Il try and gets pics up later today, Hes seeming alittle better today.

I just dont want to put him in the pond with my bigger koi incase its contagious.
