Kindle Lights?

So, because I'm a poor hanny, i decided to buy kindle reading lights instead of a proper light, until i could afford a proper ballast/lid/tubes etc, and at £3.77 each i bought three.

looking at them now im thinking maybe they are a valid buy?

Does anyone know if normal LED lights are a good long term solution to lighting strong enough to grow plants?

Pretty sure they wont be, all they are is a low spec reading light surely?

Yeah but atm im using a normal desk lamp about half a metre above the tank and it seems to be doing ok, i thought with three of them (and they are quite bright to be fair) for less than a month would be better than nothing!

yes, better than nothing, but of no use for plants as a long term solution.

yeah theyre a lot dimmer than i tohugh, its ok hopefully getting my tax back in a few weeks so new lights then, its mainly because i have an open topped tank and nowhere to hang lights from that i have a problem, and i dont want to DIY a hood because i will most likely set something on fire.

minnnt made one in his puffer tank thread out of gutterings. gonna do the same at the weekend myself. Might be worth a read

yeah i saw that but its all the elctrics stuff that i cant do, i can wield a saw but not a switch!

There is no electrics to do, its just a starter box with a couple of cables plugged into a tube
