Juwel Rekord 600 - Opinions Please

It looks like a really good deal but I don't think I've ever had anything from the Juwel brand.
I checked out the built in internal and there isn't a massive difference between the size of it vs the fluval 2+ than I would've normally used.

So if I could get to opinions on the tank and/or filter it would be very much appreciated.
Particularly can I make the filter shrimplet safe and does it have variable flow rates?

Juwel tanks are well made imo and the filter (i like the juwel internal, check the hardware thread), is a lot better than the 2+, it'll be more like a U3 WITH A 600L/H head. As for being good for shrimplet, i cannot answer because i have never had baby shrimp. At that price i would have it. You can pick a stand up for £30 brand new from Seapets at the min.

Juwel tanks are pretty good all round IME. My mum has the Rekord 600 and is a really nice tank. I dont really THINK you could make the internal shimplet safe but im sure someone else will let you know if you could. And no variable flow rates.

To make the filter safe for shrimp I just need to be able to basically wrap it in some tights or filter sponge or something similar. Just stops any of them getting sucked in or crawling in.
Is that do-able do you think (by looking at it)?
Is the flow rate seemingly fair or too much?

What you could do would be to buy the bigger polishing pads and fold them into the filter at the top, it would also slow the flow rate down a bit. I have 1 random cherry shrimp in my tank and he lives near the filter and i've seen him walk across the grill and not be sucked in and i'm running a 1000ltr/h powerhead.

It's not the adults I'm worried about. And it's not so much them getting sucked in that I'm worried about. It's them wandering in of their own free will that'd be a problem.

I was wondering if it was particularly strong just cause it'd be annoying if it was and there was no easy way to change it (other than stuffing with a bit of extra media).

then, yes they could wonder into the grills as there is at least a 4/5 mil gap in between them. It'd be hard to wrap a pait of tights over the filter.

Tights are a no go im afraid.

Heres a quick example of the intake holes. The circle is the powerhead comes out

The flow is not too bad on my mums so that should be ok.

The only way i can think that would make it safe for shrimplets in to maby stuff the intakes with filter floss but this would obviously reduce the flow.

But it wouldn't be too hard to take it off, then re-seal it back on. You could then also silicone down the sides to stop them from going behind the filter box.

Try tights or some other fine mesh and it would be simple to fabricate it on in some way. Either by taking it off, or fixing it on with some silicone, or make a small removeable frame which you could mesh up, then screw onto the housing. Plenty of options really when you see it.

The Rekord will have a 400LPH power head on I believe and one less filter sponge, but for that size, it would be adequate. The tanks themselves are very well made, but I'm personally not keen on the Rekord hoods. They're fine, it's just I always have my hands in the tank doing something and the two flaps don't allow me much room.

Price wise, it's worth buying for sure. Think I paid £30 for my 800 which I use for breeding at the minute, but will be getting some multies in there.

I have been looking for ways to stop baby bristlenoses getting into mine (Rekord 800, same filter size) I think but it seems impossible as the filter is VERY glued in.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. Think I'm gonna go for it. Just waiting on a reply from the seller to see if I'd be able to pay now and collect in a week or if I need to ask my parents very very nicely to go pick it up for me. lol.

What do you mean by the two flaps getting in the way? Does the hood not completely lift off?

I'm debating making a divider as the tank will be holding two shrimp species that can interbreed. So I could always try and adapt one so that I have the filter cordoned off too. It'd be an L shape to fit around the filter and I'd attach it at the top of the tank so it was removeable for if/when it needs cleaning.

The older models only have 2 small sections of the hood that you can take out. But the newer ones have a small feeding flap and another flap which is basically the whole top of the lid.

That's not too much of a problem I guess. Little bit annoying but for what I want it should be ok.
It's all sounding very good, I really just want this reply from the seller now! lol.

Yup, what Theplayboy said. Just two small removeable flaps but they don't allow much room for my arms when moving stuff around. The whole hood can be removed with ease, mind.. it's just a little niggle I could do without.

Go for it anyway, it'll be worth it

I do know what you mean always learning. The only complaint I'd ever have about my roma 125 is that I have to prop up the light ballast on the back of the tank if I want to see what I'm doing so then it's risky cause it could fall in the water. Whatever happened to hinged lids? And why on earth aren't more of them like car bonnets!
