I used the two clips that came with it, and all that shows on the Hood is two small nuts, which I will colour black, and they will be almost invisible.

The totally watts now is 36, One tube is for plants growth and to enhance the fish colour. The other is what came with the Tank. The plants are growing great, Including some fairly high light demanding plants, and i've just ordered loads more.

Hi Kentblokey. just a tip, replace your original tube with an upgrade as well. Either arcadia original tropical or freshwater tubes would be fine. the light from an original equipment tube will do nothing for the plants and viewing will always be better with an upgrade.

the one upgraded tube you have, is it an white/bright green ish colour or a pinky tinge??

whichever you have get the other so you have one of each. you will then have the optimum light for photosynthesis.

Original tropical - pinkish colour

freshwater - V. bright white/green

Now back to the point everyone. Here is the bodge job i have made of my rekord 60 with one additional tube.

total now 3WPG. and added Hagen natural co2 kit last night.

sorry for the bad pics, camera phone

Hi Jimboo. The upgraded light is the Pink one, Original Tropical. And I think is very good. You're right about the one that came with the Tank, and plan to get another tube soon.

Just thought I would mention i bought 1 of those wooden hoods from pets at home when on sale for £5 each!! I got 2 of them and pretty happy with them although the hinges are litle barrel ones which i broke one of them.

you could easily fit 4 tubes in there maybe even 5 at a squeeze, you would blinded when you open it though having them on the hinging door bit.

the fitting height is adjustable to your water line although if you want max room in the top then you fix the holding bar thing at the lowest point.

Fresh water lamp is the way to go. original tropical is the corrent spectrum but low intensity. the 2 combined would look great.

if you click the "check out my fishies" link in my sig, the 40G has 1 original tropical, 2 fresh water and 1 marine white.

colour is not effected by the marine white so this is what you will end up with.

really brings out the green of the plants well.

Looks like a good job Jimbooo!

Kentblokey, can you give me some more info on the Arcadia pack you bought for £15. I've done a search but can't find anything. Thanks.

I got THIS one.

Only I payed a few quid more as I was at the shop and just bought one.

It came with two clips, nuts and bolts.

I think I read on here that someone has bought one of the Hoods they have for sale on that site.

hey not sure if this is the sort of solution you were looking for, but it should be handy for anyone with a tank like mine (juwel trigon 190) or one with a similar hood. i wanted to add an extra tube but the lid wouldnt allow it. so i cut a piece of perspex, drilled and tapped 2 m4 holes into it, and srewed on 2 plastic tube clips. then siliconed it onto the inside of the lid. works great, i had to use a seperate lighting unit though. same one as kentblokey showed
i would show a pic but dont know how.
