I'm looking at purchasing the Aqua One AR850 at this stage, but I'm quite intrigued with the Juwel product range. Despite searching over the internet, and this site, I can't find alot of information regarding this particular tank, other than what is explained on the Juwel website. Can anyone determine whether these tanks and their corresponding stands are of quality (build, lights, heater, filter etc) and what material/s both the tank and stand are made of. Is the lid removable for easy access? Any close-ups or further pictures for perusal would be fantastic. Thanks :)

while i cannot comment on the rekord tank personally i can say that my Rio 180 (tank and stand) has served me well for the last 6 years, surviving two house moves and i have only made 2 purchases for the actual tank itself one being the rubber mount for the powerhead (rubber went hard cost £5) and the second being a change of bulbs through personal choice still have the originals. All i have done is provide my setup with the routine maintenance any tank needs.

My personal experience with juwel tanks has been ok.

All my experiences are with the Rio 125

The tank and stand build quality are good.
The filters provided are fine and do their job. How ever they do take up a lot of space in that tank and for better Bio filtration you should replace one or 2 of the sponges with ceramics.

Seals are good and the hoods do not warp.

The standard heaters are fine and work well with tank volumes they are provided for.

Only problem is the lighting. It sucks big style  8 months down the line and im onto my 3rd ballast. I have now just replaced the jewel ballasts with standard arcadia T8’s. This a recurring theme with juwel tanks. Some people seem to have no problems so I may be just luck of the draw I guess.

Higher capacity juwel tanks (200l and over) apparently have a habit of snapping the centre braces. Although I have never came access this.

hope this helpes

Just to add my two pennis worth. I have 4 tanks all Jewel. 2 x Rekords a 96 and a 120 plus a Trigon 190 and a Rio 300.

If I had the choice I would not buy a Rekord again biggest problem for me has been the hood. When doing any maintenance on the tank you have to remove it, cue water dripping on the floor or the base. I even get water dripping down the glass of the tank.
The Trigon and Rio on the other hand the way they use the flaps which clip into the light unit saves all of those problems.

Ditto here as well Rio = Fab, Rekord = Not so Fab

Thanks for the replies guys. After these comments, and further enquiry elsewhere, I think I'll go with the AR850 ;)
