Hi all, I am considering purchasing a Juwel Vision 260 aquarium and are interested in members experience with Juwel filtration. My aquarium vendor told me that Juwel filtration philosophy is more subtle however I am concerned that I may find that I may have to add external filtration because standard filtration is not enough?

  1. Are there members who run on the standard internal filtration system without any problems?
  2. Are there members who ran on the standard filtration system only to realise after a while that it was insufficient and added extra external filtration?
I intend to stock my tank with predominantly 5/6 discus (up to 10cm diameter). I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks 2Na

at one point i was running 6 juwel tanks but now down to 3 with just standard filters with no problems at all in 5 years. they wouldnt keep selling if they didnt work.

I've had a Juwel tank for nearly 5 years now I only ripped the filter out last month because the powerhead broke and I had another filter to hand. If it had kept on working, I'd have kept it there. Despite lots of people saying they were terrible I never had any problems with it not being sufficient.

mine is very weak. in a vision 180. i find that the irculation is shocking and leaves tonnes of dead spots where the water just doesnt seem to go anywhere. I have lots of plants and bogwood and am actually going out today to buy an external. really dont like the internal, really bad flow, if you have messy or big fish then id say get a juwel and buy an extrenal.

The point people above are saying that why would they sell them if you dont like them, because people love juwel tanks and so will buy them. also juwel can then sell any bits and bobs because they know the filter is hard to take off.
look at other tanks, they have normal filters which you can swap around for better onees (hopefully of their make) but juwel only make their internal.

in general, iv had mine 2 months and hate it, so getting a new one.

Have you thought about an external filter? Never had one but I hear they are better to run on a bigger tank (?)

on a 260l your gonna be better of using an external. Saying that i successfully run my planted tank (50g) with just the Juwel filter (1000 lph powerhead) and an extra powerhead. When the tank was set up there was a little one crawling about and the last thing i wanted was to find 50g of water on the floor and a wet toddler. I was gonna strip the tank when i rescaped it, but i am really impressed with the Juwel filtration that i didn't bother. Its a quality biological filter, and the water is crytal all the time.

Hi all, Thanks for sharing your experiences. I will keep them in mind when visiting my vendor this weekend to consider the options. 2Na

I liked the internal in my 260 it seemed to work well, however in the flat fronted tanks it wasnt as good, could be something to do with the bow front allowing better circulation.
