Hello,

Firstly i'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong section, I couldn't find a better suited one.

I've just bought a second hand Juwel Rio 180 on ebay, the lights don't work but thats another story...I'm here about the filter.

I believe its a compact/compact H. The aquariam is about 5 years old if that helps at all.

There are two white "cradles" in the filter, the bottom one housed 2 very manky large blue filter pads.

The second, ontop of the first was empty.

Along with the fish tank came a packet of "polly" pads, which I believe go into the second cradle.

Online i've seen a green Nitrate pad and a black carbon pad.

My question is which ones do I need, do I really need all of them and if so, what order do I place them in?

I was told by a few guys in the local pet store a while ago to stay away from carbon pads as you had to change them very often?

My current filter in my smaller tank only has the white pad....

I hope you can shed some light on this for me, it would be much appreciated.

It if helps, i'm planning on having live plants, and about 20-25 fish.

I have juwel bio flow 3.0 it's also got 2 x the white cradle things to house the media( sponges.)

I will post a pic from the juwel leaflet when I can , it's got a lot of info for what the pieces are for and how often they recommend you change them.

I think i have off the top of my head.
1 x poly pad
1 x carbon pad
1x nitrate pad
1x blue sponge corse
2x cirax
2x blue sponge fine

In that order
5 x poly pad £3.99 amazon , it's recommended changing weekly but I clean it and get 2-3 weeks from it. These come in 1 box tightly packed so remember to separate and use only one at a time.

I bought the cirax from amazon I think they were £5 and last a year

Ok all the filter media lister on the right. With recommended life span ( will last longer). Part on left shows order to put them. So depending on you filter and the room available try to match this. I think the more media in there the better.
Ok
