Juwel Filter Media?

Hi guys,

I have both the large and small blue sponges, the green Nitrite one and the Cirax in my filter.

How often should they be replaced? (It's a Juwel 180)

The blues & cirax, frankly never, the sponges will last til they are falling apart, the cirax the same (although not heard of that stuff ever falling apart). The nitrAte green sponge, isnt really necessary, but if you want to replace it, I would guess once a month, but your better off leaving it in there the same as the blues.

Obviously they will all need cleaning every few months (or when you notice the flow slowing) and this needs to be done in OLD tank water, never under tap water.

Yes, but like a lot of folks you'll probably rip out the Juwel filter and install a couple of external canisters long before then! The Juwel filters are fine for biological filtration but as mechanical filters they're pretty hopeless.

I've had mine years and not replaced them yet. Only planning to replace one because the current sponge will be removed and put in another filter, a la instant cycle!
