Juwel Compact Filter?

i have a compact filter in my juwel trigon 190 and was wondering if it is really up to the job.
the water quality is fine and always has been so biological filtration is working very well but there always seems to be particals floating around at all levels in the water.
imagine crushed flake food that does not get eaten floating around well thats what its like all the time but the water its self is crystal clear.
the filter is set up correctly and you would think that the poly pad at the top of the stack of filter media would collect these particals but they just seem to float past the filter intake .
at first i thought it was an algea bloom but that was about 4 months ago 3 weeks after the tank was first set up.
i have never come across this problem before but i have always used fluval external filters on all my tanks.
i am thinking about ripping out the compact filter and going back to what i know best and installing a fluval external filter but before i part with my money i was wondering if there is somthing stupid that i have overlooked.
so any ideas anyone?

theyre good filters for bog standard freswater tanks but if its planted or houses big fish etc, it isnt up to the job, go external
