Juwel Bulbs Essential For Juwel Light Bar?

Hi all, have a Juwel Rio 180 that came with light bar but no bulbs, was told needed to replace them.

Have bought 2 new 900mm bulbs (originals are 895mm, new ones seem to fit fine) and the unit still isn't working.

Saw the thread about the ballasts going and thought I have been sold a duff unit with the tank, cracked the light unit open and had a good look over the ballast, looks fine.

My question is, are the Juwel specific bulbs ESSENTIAL to make the unit work as I'm not having much luck with it at the min.

Yes, juwel were clever enough (and obnoxious enough) to make their bulbs a slightly different size so you have to buy from them.

Just to update, it is my ballast that's gone, hoping these 900mm tubes fire up with new ballast! (here tomorrow)

No you can get Juwel replacement tubes from Iquatics. I just got 4 new tubes for my 450 Vision and they are very very helpful and really good on price.. Please see my topic as you can see the diff in light
