I am wondering what would be good pH for these fish, I have heard conflicting reports about their pH preference:

Bolivian Rams (Microgeophagus Altispinosa)
Dwarf Gourami (Colisa Lalia)
Khuli Loaches (Pangio Khuli)
Three Striped Corys (Corydoras Trilineatus)
Cherry Barbs (Barbus Titteya)

I know the whole, if you adapt your fish, any reasonable pH will be fine, but I still want to know what is the most natural and comforatble pH for these fish

Our tap water has a pH of around 7.6

Thanks

your ideal ph is hard to determine
the kuhlies like 6.5 as the max rams like 7 as min.

I would say that a stable ph is far better than the ideal,
provided your tank is not running in extreames you should be fine.

Okay, How much can I lower my pH (using peat moss) before I have to start lowering my water that I use for water changes? (Dont know how to ask it without being confusing)

I run peat in two of my tanks; the 62g tank runs at a ph of 6.2 and the 20g tank runs at 6.5, my tap water is 7.5.

I'll admit I've not tested the ph before and after water changes (maybe I should, water change day today) but I've not had a problem with water changes (ph wise).

Okay, so do you think I would be fine with a neutral pH, and doing water changes with pH=7.6 water?

Also, with peat moss; do you just put it in the tank, on the sand?

Thanks for the replies!

you have to get specific peat from a lfs (do not use sphagnum moss/peat moss from a garden center.
aquarium peat, like sera peat granules, eheim effipeat etc has been irradiated to kill any nasty organisums that live in peat.

most people put the peat in a media bag and place in the filter.
I have mine in the filter but in the toe of an old pair of stockings (much cheaper than media bags).
you can however place the peat in a bag and hang it in the tank within the filters flow.
