Well right now I'm on vacation. I know how to leave my big fish for a while, so I assumed it's not any different for bettas. Did biggest water changes I could do (100%) and fed them a bit more than normal. I don't really have to many people I can trust to take care of my bettas right (last time I had somone do it they were all over fed and it appeared that 2 died from constipation). So, even though there isn't much I can do now, did I do the right thing? Thanks.

i have read that bettas can survive as long as 3 weeks,, longer then i would leav one... a week is all i would go for.. if u r gonna be gone longer how about getting a auto fish feeder?

I've left my bettas for 5 days with no problems. i just fed them a bit extra for a couple days before, then cut down to normal feeding the day before i left.

Shouldn't leave them w/o food for more than a week tho.

I leave mine a week. They have all got totally clean water and will feed them in a minute then that will be it for a week!
When I went for longer I left pinches of fish food in egg cups with labels on saying feed this Monday! Feed this Wednesday etc!! I have had fish die from over feeding. :good:

Well I'm back now. They're all fine.

An automatic feeder would be nice, but I'm pretty sure there aren't ones small enough for 1 - 2 gallon tanks. Or are we talking about the ones that dissolve in the water?

Glad to know everything is fine. How long did you leave em?

I'm always really nervous leaving em for a while. I haven't had any problems, but my gf has come back to find her bettas with tattered fins (i still think it was a coincidence that they acquired fin rot at the same time).

The automatic feeders just dont work for tanks this small and wont dispense pellets (from the ones i've seen).

Do you have a vacation feeder for your O tank? I only ask cuz I'm going to put together a 125g old world cichlid tank with an Oscar and I will have week long (or more) absences.

I left them for about 7 days.

I do have an automatic feeder for my cichlids. But luck has it, I couldn't find it the day before and I found it when I came home.
