I spotted these beautiful fish at pets at home

They were sold to me as assorted rams. Can anybody say exactly what type they are? What i should be feeding them? I have now created a very heavily planted section on one side of my tank as i read rams like to hide away alot.

I got a pair of these and the guy at P@H said they are male and female but im unsure on how to sex them?

The lower fins at the front on one if them (shown above) is white and the others are black.

Any info would be great. I understand i will now get told of for not knowing what i was buying but they were listed as "tropical" and "peacefull"

And the other

Aww I'm very jealous  I want ...

I'm no expert on rams (still doing some research myself) but I think it's a German Blue Ram. It might be best for you to head over to the cichlid section for information :)

Thanks. They are very pretty fish! They get on well with all my other fish aswell.

My first thought was german blue but somthing i read online changed my mind so i was confused.

My girlfriend doesnt like them!!! She clearly has no taste in fish.!!!!!

beautiful fish ... they're on my list to get once my existing stock dies of old age.

I've just had a quick look for you and Rams seem to be covered more in the New World Cichlid section on here. It might be best to ask a mod to move this thread over to there so you get the right information.

I'm still drooling ...

Hopefully they will move it for me? Wasnt too sure where to post it.

They said that they would be fine with all the other fish i have.

Yes they are indeed German Blue Rams. they are quite hard to sex - when i had them they were sold to me as a pair and turned out to be 2 females!! Here is an informative article on them including sexing - good luck!

German Blue Rams

Yep they are German Blues, they look a little thin so make sure that you get them eating well. They are notoriously hard to keep in community tanks as they like low ph and high temperatures. Now I can see a guppy in one of those pics who like it cooler and more neutral. Some do thrive in community tanks though so fingers crossed :)

There is indeed guppies in there. Plattys, mollies, corys, plec and two yoyo loaches.

They arent taking to flake yet so i will have to try and find something for them at p@h. Any recommendations?

Going by the sexing on that link i have a male and female when looking at the pelvic fins. But then again the sheen comes through on both of them?

Well i know its best for the fish but the mrs wont allow the frozen stuff in the house. I got some cichlid pellets today. Going to have to break them in half and stop the mollies eating them :(

My 2 rams would never touch cichlid pellets! Plenty of 'meaty' frozen or live foods to bring out their amazing colours

I used to feed my GBRs flake, frozen bloodworm, Tetra Fresh Delica Daphnia and live food.

I found this article very informative: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/cichlid/germanblueram.php

Unfortuntaely my pair passed away recently, even though the water parameters were fine. Apparently GBRs are very sensitive to bad water quality, so make sure you keep your nitrates low through regular water changes. Good luck with them, they are beautiful fish

I was thinking they are Bolivian rams opposed to GBR,s. Likewuse, I am looking at these when I get my 5ft tank set up!! .
would be very surprised if P@H have GBR's, especially alive ... Otherwise your P@H must be far better than my local one!!
Great choice though ... Love them!! ☺.

Oh meant to add that there is loads of info about these fish on the net and on this site also. If they are GBR then as already stated, water parameters have to be spot on.
Still impressed as lovely fish you got there.

Bolivian sounds more like it as they are more hardy fish. They can with stand higher levels and im sure PAH havent got their levels spot on.
