Just Purchaised New Pump,info Please

hi all,not new to hobby,but would like to know 1 or 2 things,i have just bought a new external pump,came today, a tetratec 1200,i plan to run it along side my fluval 305, until bacteria builds up and then take the 305 away,and just run the 1200.could you please tell me when it will be safe to do so?,,,the fluval 305 is only about 16months old perfect working order and new looking,so i would like to sell it,how much could i sell it for?and when i take it away from my tank the buyer can take it cleaned or uncleaned,they just need to tell me what they would like me to do,pm me please and i will keep till i can take it away from my tank,,,(pickup only please northeast,area,)and thankyou,for all the info in the forum. i love reading,you all know your stuff,thankyou again,,kenny

I'd guess at least a month, possibly two, of running them side-by-side.

run both for a few days, then make an area in the new external for the 305 media. after this slowly remove some of the 305 media week by week till none is left. job done!

remember even with 10 filters, you will only have as much bacteria as your tank can sustain. so leaving them running for too long, together, will be of little use.

If you take the bag of carbon out of the TetraTec (keeping it safe for any future need), you can put another black bio sponge in it's place.

I'd run side-by-side for a month, then remove a tray of media from the Fluval each week untill empty Alternatuvely, shove all the media from the 305 into the EX1200 strait away It depends on if you like to use all new manufacturer media from start-up, or if you don't mind having "old" media in the new filter. If you move all the 305 meida across though, you will have to pack it in tight. Any gaps and the water will flow arround the mature media rather than through it, defeting the object of moving it across...
