Just Found A Great Way To Do Water Changes!

i have now setup my 2ft 60l along side my 4ft 50g.

space is limited and i used the table my 60l is now on to but a big bucket on and siphon the water back in. this is no longer possible ( didnt think ahead! ) so i had an idea and it works perfectly.

i had a spare water pump, nothing special really, rated at 5w. i submerged it in my tank, connected a hose and sure enough it started pumping the water out....not fast but good enough. i filled my bucket up with fresh treated water and used the same method and it works a treat. i know pumping out of the tank is not cleaning the substrate but i will do that part manually. my idea really came about to pump the water back into the tank..

the plus side is that there is very little to no disturbance and the temp change if any will be gradual, so great for my fish and saves me trying to put the bucket above the tank, which is an accident waiting to happen

Sounds simple but effective! How long of a distance are you pumping? May blow out the little pump eventually but hey who cares if it works!

I am off to HOME Hardware to buy some stuff to make a python for my tank right now!

im pumping about 4 feet away from the tank.lol

interesting link, seems fairly simple but i would rather know exactly what temp is going in and pumping chlorine straight into your tank and treating afterwards is asking for trouble, in my honest opinion.

May blow out the little pump eventually but hey who cares if it works!

its designed to pump water,maybe not uphill so much but the only thing that i can see going wrong is the impeller.i think it would last for months.

Nice one. Yeah I just finished building my python I haven't tried it yet though. Will be easy to fill the tank by the syphon might stuggle with the length I have to pump.

thats what pumps are for. i use a 3000 lph eheim compact to pump the water back into my 4x2x2.
if you have the right taps you can DIY yourself a python which aviods using backets altogether.
