It's a bit wierd, i have never had any algae in my tank, i clean the glass and do a 40% water change weekly, i do the same with my smaller tank but this grows algae, i find this quite strange. Can anyone relate?

depends on loads of things.

have you got plants in the one? higher/lower lighting? more fish? closer to a window?

heavily planted, no where near a window, it gets some natural sunlight but not much, 2.2 watts per gallon.

Fish include:

1 blood parrot
4 red wagtail platy's
2 blue/mickey mouse platy's
1 female pearl gourami
12 neon tetra's
1 betta

In smaller aquarium, that's more likely to happen. You should do smaller water changes in that one, but do them more often.

thanks. yeh i just got my parrot fish so i was planning on cutting water changes down a little, 10% 2-3 times per week should do it. I'm certainly not comlaining though, every other tank i have ever owned has had a algae problem, its a refreshing change but i was a little worried that there could be something wrong, hense the lack of algae.
