probs makes sense :) I misunderstood. Good job I put a little type of disclaimer at the beginning

Disposable bottles have a smaller threaded par at the top so you need a regulator that fits disposable bottles. You can however buy an adaptor to screw into it which allows a standardbottle/FE to work on it if you so choose in the future

My Reg was from WeldUK-second one down.
http://www.welduk.com/Results1.asp?Category=37

Bottles from here:
http://www.thewelderswarehouse.com/Welding...elding_Gas.html

The needle valve and solenoid came from Lunapet/Aquarianversand on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CO2-Feinnadelventil-...:0|293:1|294:30

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CO2-magnetic-valve-s...:0|293:2|294:25

You unscrew the little piece on the reg, the needle valve screws straight into the hole, connect hose and then attach the solenoid to the hose, attach hose the other side 2 and away to your NRV/Bubble counter /diffuser.

You will need to cut the cable on the solenoid and put a UK plug on it or use adaptors.

I wasn't having a go at you r.e. the kids. Jsut if you were to have a lock on there you would be able to pur everything fish related in the cabinet :)

Thanks for the reply AC, think youve pretty much made my mind up... now just to convince my better half ;)

Thankyou to everyone else that gave me there input too, all is and always will be appriciated :)

Jen,

I appreciate your concern for safety. Putting a strap on the tank to hold it in place and a lock on the cabinet door(s) should be plenty of security with toddlers in the house.

I would be surprised if the tanks and regulators on your side of the ocean are weaker than here in the states. After looking at mine I decided to not even it strap it down but my youngest is 11, with toddlers I would strap it.

Maybe this will link will make you feel better http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbuster...tinguisher.html

Basically the pressure relief valve on the extinguisher will keep it from exploding. There is another episode where they dropped the exintguisher several feet into the fire. Same result. The pressure relief valve is a huge safety factor. I suppose if a toddler repeatedly banged on the regulator with a big hammer they might be able to fracture it enough so that it would squirm around, but to make a tank explode with lethal force the pressure relief valve would have to be disabled and the tank would have to be heated in a fire.

Safety is a good thing but as long as it has a pressure relief valve it is safer than you think.

HTH.

Jen,

Interesting reading this topic as i have a 125L tank which i have just setup with a dual DIY C02 (yeast) system.
Would be good to compare our results as we both live in the same area (less than 10 miles apart) and thus are using the same water etc.

What plants are you planning on growing?

Cheers m8, very interesting :)

Hey m8, i think im going disposable pressurised now :), convinced the other half that it's much better but safer than FE lol... well that's how i worded it anyways lol

compare yes, be good to see the effects of DIY compared to the way im gonna do it now.

Whats you actuall setup?...ie... substrate etc etc

Not got a proper plant list yet, all i know is the forground plant is either glosso, HC or dwarf hairgrass. or maybe all 3 not to sure yet, P.helferi is a definite just becasu i like it lol and a few mosses ... think maybe flame and fissidens(sp) but again not to sure on the flame maybe xmas instead and thats pretty much how ive thought about it so far blyxa is an option but ive read this can be hit and miss, some people grow it fine some just have trouble no matter how hard they try.

You got you planned list yet?

Once you get the CO2 dialled in and are happy the levels are good then get the Blyxa. It is a weed when CO2 is good. Not hard like you hear at all. You will be ripping it out weekly:

This is after planting a decent amount I got from George Farmer.

1 month later and my god it needed pruning

Get it once you are happy with your CO2/flow setup. It will be fine. this is under 0.9WPG of T5HO, not high light at all :)

Cheers for that m8, tank looks superb :good:, see what you mean about the blyxa ...it does look stunning though :)

Substrate is eco complete, with a small layer of peat underneath. Temperature WAS around 26 until this heatwave - last night it was at 31 eek! But it shold start dropping now.
I fertilise with seachem equilibrium and potassium phopshate but this is all going to change once i recieve my c02 drop checker and my kh/gh tester from a member on here.
I will be making liquid fertiliser to make dosing easier.

Like you, i will also be having a go at some glosso. My plant list so far is

87225170.jpg

Check out this topic to see the actual layout i have planned.

Maybe we could make a joint topic in the future comparing our findings about c02 stability, algae, etc etc.
It would be helpful as we have the same water, tank size, possibly temperature and maybe stocking.

What stock are you planning?
I think i will go for: 12 Cherry Barbs, 2 German Blue Rams, 6 Dwarf Rasboras (Emerald or Galaxy) and some kind of bottom feeders, cories maybe.

Andy

sounds good m8, love the planed scape looks superb..... was going to use ecco-complete but i wanna try akadama had some really good results and not many seem to use it so worth a try

Yeh ive just got the recipe for the DIY TPN+ mix so gonna give that a try, plant list looks nice aswell... i think quantities may have to be upped but it should look really nice when it starts to fill out :good:.

Like the idea of a joint topic, sounds like it would be an intersting read, what sort of lighting you using for yours?... i got a luminair for mine 3 x 24watt T5's ... should give around 2.2 WPG so hopefully it should be nicely lit and the plants hopefully will take well.

Stocking i have no idea

all i know is i want a pair of these .......

bbbb.jpg

will probably add some cory's but not sure what yet, also some shrimp but hopefully some crs or cbs, stocking will be low becasue i want this mainly as a planted tank not a fish...tank so stocking will probably change over time lol

will keep an eye on your journal m8, hoprfully mind will be finally starting towards the end of the month. :)

Good luck with the akadama!

Any chance you could send me the TPN+ recipe? Would be handy if we used the same fertiliser.
I will up the plants its just that i cant really justifiy spending over £30 on plants are the moment.

I am using 2 x 39w T5's. WIll be purchasing reflectors soon. 1x Sylvania Grolux and 1x Phillips Day Light
Which is just under 2.8wpg - Didn't realise it was that high actually, suprised i havnt had any algae yet, been setup for 2 weeks.
Taking that into account i might just forget about the reflectors, making the bulbs less effective? What do you reckon the wpg would be without reflectors?

Cheers m8, can only try akadama, can always change at a l8r date if not liked lol ;)

Think it works out about 2.3 - 2.4 WPG at 2 x 39w bulbs.

Yeh will send you the recipe now m8.

Actually, yours equal 72W and mine equals 78W
How did you get 2.2WPG?
72 / 29 = 2.57

Meh, i'm ill leave me alone ^_^
But yeah you're right.

Thats perfect though, we have almost exactly the same wpg. Same dosing, same tank size, same water.
Will let you know what ph, gh and kh my tap and tank water is when i get the kits.
Should be very very interesting.

My plants seem to be doing marvelous at the moment, im sure my swords were pearling last night. Unless it was just c02 bubbles not o2 bubbles?
