most treat the water going in. it is not a problem to add it straight to the tank though. many with larger tanks and Python systems, have little choice. providing you get the dosage right, both, ways, give the same result.

You treat just what you added, before it goes into the tank. If you put it into the tank first, then you need to treat the entire tank.

i never do/did (i dont use it any more, unless i do changes over 30%),i only treat for the amount of water i add. the chlorine and so on, in the tank water, has already been bound.

Yep, no point wasting dechlor on the whole tank when only the replacement water needs treating.
The water already in there has been treated so just add the amount of dechlor required for the replacement water and you're good to go =)

yep, true. but if you fill your tank direct. you have to add it to the tank, its your only option.
