How long do your CO² cylinders last?

What CO² set up (Solenoid / pH Controller etc) do you have?

What size is your tank?

What type of diffuser do you use?

Basiclly I don't think that my cylinders last anywhere near long enough, the flow is good but I'm sure there is a problem, either with the regulator leaking gas or the gas not being diffused efficiently. I have a pH controller and solenoid so in theory the unit should only use exactly as much gas as it needs to keep the CO² / pH levels stable (at 30ppm / 6.9 pH).

I assume that the ph controller has been correctly calibrated recently with a calibration kit??

You can check for leaks at the joint using a soapy water solution, just brush it on at every join in turn & check for any bubbles.

How many bubbles/sec are you getting??

What size tank is it??

What size cylinder is it??

30ppm is high rate to run at, I run mine @ around 20ppm and am getting very good growth (but no pearling)

I brought a soleniod set 2.
I have 33 usg tank, 30ppm with a nurafin ladder at the moment. I've had it running about 3-4 weeks and it has not used mush at all.
I am planning on injecting it straight into my exturnal filter, which I under stand dissolves most if not all, but I not know that personal.

The unit was calibrated about 3 months ago, I have regularly check the pH manually to make sure it's giving a correct reading.

When the unit kicks in, it's producing 1 - 2 bubble per second.

Tank is 47.5 USG.

I have 2 cylinders, a 500g and a 2KG.

I'll see if I can find any leaks this evening.

I have profi set 2 with solenoid. And a 500g cylinder.

Tank 20gal, bubbles at about 1 per second. maybe slightly faster than that.

Looking back at posts I got a cylinder on 15th Oct ish. I just replaced it 2 weeks ago. So it lasted 10 weeks (could have lasted prob another week but wanted to replace it that weekend). This was using the solenoid. On for 10 hours a day.

I thought they would last a lot longer too. But it certainly beats DIY. I get my replacement for £6. (exchange bottles).

How long do yours last? Mine 500g last 3-4 months.

ok dumb question, sorry.

i got one for christmas and it came with a 2 pin euro plug. i've sent it back and the replacement also had a 2 pin plug.

do you UK based people have a 3 pin plug on the solenoid? i cant believe i need to use an adaptor as once that is plugged into a timer the tower of electrical bits and bobs will look kinda scary...

all come with 2 pin but ones sent for uk should come with an adapter!

i use a ph controller with mine and mine also only last for 10 weeks but sometimes i was upping to 40ppm and was probably going at 2 bubbles a sec for alot of the time. My new one will be dropped to about 1 per sec hopefully. i have now used various diffusers to try and find the best one. I find the one that comes with it quite good if you add the extensions so it runs the full height of your tank. I have a glass one but dont think much to that but not sure if im using properly. i aslo have a ferplast pump driven one which is the best for no loss of co2 but i find it cant cope with more than about 1 bubble every 2 secs.

And also getting dangerous too. All UK supplied electrical equipment should come with a BS1363/# 3 pin plug, unless double insulated, then two pins are ok. Adaptors are not acceptable. The only exception to this is bathroomy type stuff, like shavers and electric toothbrushes, that might be used in a two pin bathroom outlet.

BUT.

We still get a lot of bits and bobs sold to us with 2 pin plugs.......

Read as 'Euro-bureau...'

sub.

update... i picked up the 3rd kit the LFS ordered for me last night. came complete with 3 pin plug, 2 diffuser extensions and a free extra 500g co2 bottle. result.

i've now had 2 hours sleep after completely emptying my 40G and starting again. i'm rather excited to say the least.

Hi

I have a 55 USG tank.

500 Gram cylinder, Ceramic diffuser, of course with regulator.. :)

it's runing 24/7 and last for 4 week's

2 bubble in sec, and i got 12 ML/G of CO2 only..

So, i think that the diffuser is not enough efficient..

im thinking of DIY forced reactor, i checked up any leaking before, there's no leaking..

Best Regards

You can get special plugs that house the 2pin plug inside, almost like you would wire a plug. Sometimes when you buy products they come fitted, either that, just cust the plug off & wire on a UK one?

hi mate, i've actually got a 3 pin one now (see post above). but that wouldn't have worked. it's not really a plug more of a transformer thingy (sorry i'm not technical at all) then a special wire with a funny connection plugs in to it from the pressure reducer. all the connections are unique (just to be helpfull) rewiring isn't an option nor are those plug adaptors. thanks for the thought anyway but they do supply a 3 pin version.
