can java moss just grow straight from the ground or must it be placed on some driftwood. Can it grow in sand or only gravel?

java moss will grow almost anywhere, it will carpet your whole tank if you let it, i have not seen my bog wood in about a year because of java moss lol

It grows anywhere you want it too. although it can get out of control sometimes.

i originally got a tiny bit off a friend of mine and just poked it in my gravel and in about a week it had grown over about half of my tank.
