Java Moss Wall - A Slow Diary

Finally :) you have done it hehe :) Cant wait to see it in full action i may have to give one of these guys ago. Intime it would make an amazing background.

You know when I asked which way it was facing, I meant the original moss. If its facing out the back, It won't be as effective as if the moss is facing into the tank... i would have thought turning it around would have been better but I suppose it doesn't matter now, just keep an eye to make sure the back doesn't rot.

can we see a pic from the front of the tank with the moss in it? that last pic looks like the back of the tank?

edit* after looking at ur pics, it looks like u attached the moss to the back of the grid, so it would have to grow out and thru, that could be why ur took soo long to grow, i think attaching it to the front (or turning ur grid around) would have had much faster growth! but its starting to look good now! just make sure u dont over do the light cuz then u'll have to start using CO2 and ferts, (if ur not already)

Ah right, this is the stuff I bought

I found it really hard to work out which was the front, the mesh of the net!and again here

So, for the future, the mesh is meant to face the tank and the netting faces away?

Thanks

Normally you use the mesh to tie fishing line around moss on the outside... Aren't both sides of the net/mesh the same? :p

Mesh faces away from the tank :good:

Ah i had mesh and a metal grate, i put all of the moss on the grate then held it down with the mesh, then stuck the metal grate to the tank wall.

As shown in the links

45 Days - Thought I would show some of the other moss which is outside the wall. This has gone nuts!

A lot of that is brown. Is it dead? most of that wall looks like it needs trimming or redoing. The dead bits won't be any help.

The moss on the wood isn't as brown, maybe you have some sort of nutrient defciency? anyone got any thoughts?

Looks less brown in the pic but the wood moss is just as brown, has loads of new bits coming on it and lots of dead, a real mix but certainly not just dying without any new growth. :(

Sorry to be frank, but I will, as a person who often constructs moss walls. The wall needs to be redone. You've got some choked growth there and it's turning brown. Take it down, separate the live moss from the brown bits and do it again. Or you'll lose all the moss and you're creating an ammonia source with the decaying vegetation. They periodically do need to be redone. It's a lot like riccia, I've found.
