my java ferns have started making plantlets, and what i wanted to know at what size do i seperate and plantlets from the plant?

From my experience with Java Ferns you can separate them once the leaves are around 1/4 - 1/2 an inch. and they will keep growing fine. But they are harder to attach to anything. I'd wait till they're an inch or two. But in terms of survivability, they're fairly robust.

mine are getting to 1/4-1/2 inch and my platies/guppies or cory cat is eatting then i think they keep disappering, can i seperate then and leave them in a seprate tub? i.e my breeding box in the tank?

Yeah that should be fine. My guess is the platies. I ave cory cats and guppies and my java ferns and crested java ferns are doing great! Although I have seen the guppies nipping at the crested java ferns. But they seem fine.

Platies shouldn't eat healthy plants.  They graze algae but they don't eat java fern.

I tend to take my plantlets off young and leave them in an ice cream tub of water (I think they look untidy left on the mother plant) :)
They're fine in the ice cream tub but don't grow much of course.  It serves to keep them alive for weeks or months until I decide to tie them to something.
