Just how aggressive are these cichlids, I know thier name suggest there really aggressive but i've been reading they sometimes get an unfair rep, especially the jd. I also know it varies fish to fish.

I mean I've been reading how docile sev's are but mine is just a little piece of work. Maby I'll have better luch with a jd or gt?

GT's are pretty much at the top of the aggression scale and JD's are not far behind. Temperament can and does vary from fish to fish but you are highly unlikely to get a docile example of either.

That said, they are both wonderful species and can be very rewarding given the right environment and care. :good:

If you're looking for something to replace your severum.. you might be interested in festivum.. they're pretty similar in aggression to severums.. not usually too aggressive but can hold their own.

Don't worry, I've found agood replacement. I got a refund for the severum and got my self a small firemouth. :)

JD's and GT's seem to have a unfair rep when they are placed in a good community environment. But, as soon as someone in the tank thinks they are more bad-ass then them or you put in a fish that they do not like, they turn into a jerk. They will peck at fins, head-butt, jaw-lock, and generally anything else that will pester an eventually cause way too much stress to the target fish.

You must always keep an eye on these fish. Even if you think a community is happy one day, the next it could look like a battlefield with everyone having bruises and pretty massive injuries.

the GT in my pic harassed everything, it was dominant over, red devils, frontosa's , a aggressive male severum, and a very nasty male bloodparrot, he even killed a very big oscar,,,,

never kept dempseys
if theyre anything like devils or salvinis or jags then i get it

Theres a good write up on JD's in Octobers PFK. They aint have as bad as people make out, but they are a cichlid so can get terrotorial and will obviously eat anything that fits in there mouth (but then again, theres not many that wont!).
