My other half saw a betta that he liked that i can order from work [its a mustard gas crowntail, whereas im getting a metallic crown and a red dragon half moon:)]

he suggested we get a tank and divide.... [already getting excited]

then i dropped in...'oh ive just seen a 2ft 20g tank for £16 new'...he said yes =] all we've gotta do is move the tv and mount it to the wall and hey presto! new space for tank

now im epically excited!

how many sections could i divide that into?

and how can i make my own dividers? i head something about some mesh?

ohhhhhhh MewMew's getting a new tank!! :) whoop whoop! lol

I have divided my 2FOOT (16g) tank into four sections, I made my own dividers using Plastic Craft Grids and Paper Binders, both available from Ebay.

The LFS charges £6 for 1 and i made 3 for that price :)

Personally I'd divided it into two, but you could possibly push it to 3 sections , each 8 inches across which would give each fish around 5 and a half gallons each in terms of space.

You can buy tank dividers on ebay. They consist of two plastic runners and a piece of mesh that you can cut to size ( or have cut to your tank size ) You MUST make sure the divider is tall enough to stick out of the water and almost touch the spalsh tray/cover glass. Bettas can jump quite high and the last thing you want is for one of them to jump into another's section and cause a fight.

You can make your own dividers using plastic binder runners that you can buy in office stores. The sort you slide papers into to keep them together so you can turn the pages like a book, The runner is basically a removable plastic "spine" down one side. They usually come in packs of two or more.

Then you need plastic embroidery mesh. Craft and hobby stores should stock this, or again, Ebay.

You "glue" the runners to the tank walls with aquarium silicone sealant and leave overnight to cure. Cut your mesh to the right height and size and slide it into the runners. It should fit tight and not rattle about loosely. There should be no gaps anywhere for a fish to squeeze through.

After that you can go ahead and add gravel/sand, set the tank up and cycle it or add a cycled filter, plus a heater ( these can go in one section ) and then carry on as usual.

I would strongly advise to have a filter with a spray bar ( holes faced at the back wall !! ) so the flow is directed evenly across the sections and not blasting through one section alone and tossing the fish in that section about.

Personally hon I would say four, or three and smaller fourth section for the filter and heater (personally 4 ;)) I would also go with spray bar and also make own dividers, did this on my cube tank recently and it is working extremely well. My four cost the same as one store bought one.

Very exciting, congrats! Get that tv moved!

I think im too excited over this :)

I wanted a bigger tank but i think im pushing it lol

once i can figure out how to put brackets on the tv, then we're in business =]

thanks for the help =]

Just my two penneth, I'd go or 3 Betta Sections then a 4th filter section, mainly because you can add things such as indian almond leaves etc to this, aswell as the filter, and you could then black it all out if you liked and so your boys sections would look pristine and 'hardware less'...

Just an idea. :)

Aww this sounds really good! I'd go with 4 sections, 3 section of 6G, then a 2G section for heater/filter etc, :good:
