I love woodpeckers of all kinds! Looks like his tongue is sticking out, maybe at your bro? Interesting thing about woodpecker tongues, they're round & really long compared to other bird tongues. Better for finding bugs, etc. Goodness knows I opened many a bird mouth in my rehab days, lo

Nice pic but it makes me cringe. I have a Northern Flicker (looks like a woodpecker) that's drilling holes in everything around here, including the fascia at the very peak of my two story house. On the side that's difficult to get to on a ladder.
I'd like to shoot him, but not with a camera.

A Northern Flicker is indeed a species of woodpecker.
I see 4 species of woodpeckers daily at my feeder, Red Bellied ( the one in your photo), Downy, Hairy, and Northern Flickers. Very rarely, like a few times a year, I'll see a Pileated woodpecker.

We have a ton of woodpeckers around the house, though not the nice one that started this conversation, we get Flickers, Piliated, Downy, Hairy, and very occasionally at Red Breasted Sap Sucker. The Flickers always pound at our metal pipes coming out of the roof but don't do anything else to our house. The sap suckers put holes in a number of our trees which they go back to pick insects out of the sap, otherwise they don't cause issues.
