Well i got my Jewel cichlids on tuesday, moved into a nice section with a big smooth rock. They laid eggs on Thursday and by friday the eggs were a mass of wriggling tails.

The parents moved them to a little pit at the front of the tank, but a lot of them have fallen thru the substrate to the bottom, what i wanted to know is it best to leave them there to break free and find their own way out, or should i carefully move the substrate to give them a better chance?

Thanks

moving fish is a common trick to induce spawning, it's though the massive change make's the fish think the water is going bad so better breed to try to produce fry that may survive it.

I've breed many fish the same day doing this.

Interesting idea, I have just had to perform a rescue misson, i hadnt realised the partition didnt reach right to the bottom of the tank and some babies had managed to wriggle thru to another section, out came the gravel cleaner and think all are now ok.

Guess ill just have to see how many survive, guess its a learning curve for the fish and me!

These fish are great, just moved them to a tank of their own and within 2 hours they have laid eggs :)

WOOOOOOOO

Still no luck with my Sevs tho :(
