Is This A Good Setup For Guppies

thanks so far guys..

does anyone know if this filter should be put above the water level? (like the little nozzles that spray out water?)

I think your setup is just fine. I'm sure you'll get a bigger setup when you want to or are able to. But I don't see anything wrong with this at all. The fish won't get all that much bigger.
(yeah id like to get one now but i dont have space in my room, i do in a side room we have but then i wouldnt see it a ton/keep up on the maintenance as well)

thanks yea do u think i should get some sorta cave for them to hide in ?

Mine don't do a whole lot of hiding in caves. I have a lava rock with a few holes in it that they swim through, but I think it's just because it's there, not because they prefer it.

They do really like their plants, though. I've noticed they like to pick at them all day long, just getting little bits of food off them, not injuring the plants in any way.

I think whatever you put in there they'll find it interesting. They're very curious and fun little fish.

thanks for the followup man, hopefully my live plants will grow over time as well giving them more stuff to play in. thanks for the followup

im just getting into this hobby but i really like it. ( wish i could get a bigger tank though lol)

I often just stare at the tank and watch the little guys play. As I said, they're curious and like to check out everything and I just think it's fun to watch!

Did you cycle your tank before adding the fish?

You'd be best to get a water test done to make sure the water parameters are ok.

hey you guys i hope someones reading this cuz i need help. basically 1 of the guppy is laying on the bottom, hes moving a tin y bit at a time randomly but appears to be breathing at a really fast rate

what should i do ?
(the other 3 are swiming around as usual and seem healthy)

Well, now you know what happens when you don't cycle the tank before adding fish. Do a large water change immediately, then again every day until you have an ammonia reading of "0" on your API test kit.

Yep.

Sounds like your fish is suffering from ammonia poisoning.

Get the water changed quick, then read the section about "Fish-in cycling"!

+1 on the Ammonia poisoning, Sounds too me like another case of Newbee. Please read all the info in the beginners section with regards to Fish In Cycling hopefully we can save these guys, but doesent sound good.

Huge water change now!!!!! Then everyday from now on. until as said above your readings are "0"

okay guys so i just did a 50% water cange and turned the filter up to about maybe 50-60 percent instead of low.

now should i replace the dead guppy with another one or leave the tank at 3? (3 gallon tank)

and how much water should i be changing how frequently now? (like 50% every 2 days ? or what?) and for how long

You should do the same 50% water change every single day until the tank is cycled, when your ammonia and nitrite readings are "0". Please read the resources that are available to you on this site. There's so much good information just waiting for you to read it.

And for heaven's sake, don't subject another fish to an uncycled tank.

yeah i read the fish in tank cycling guide, one thing is that it states letting the water get below the filter could kill the beneficial bacteria?

do u think this happens within a few minutes or no?

any other opinions? also think i should replace the fish or no ?
