this is my current setup for my guppies (got it maybe 2 weeks ago)

3 gallon tank with 4 small guppy (all male)

heater keeps the tank at great steady temp, and i have an airstone turned on about medium

both plants are real

in this tank i do have small internal filter using the spread out nozzle thing,
(this filter to be specific http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3523858)

also its turned down to the lowest setting

i know most people may say to get a larger tank but i cant due to space limitations and such...

anyways, other then that, do you have any constructive ideas or recommendations?

the link is a video showing my tank setup:

do you think i should turn the air stoner higher or lower? other then that everything good?

its a good setup. guppies dont like a very strong current so direct the filtration away from where they swim and the airstone is fine :)

I'm confused, are you planning on putting a betta in with your guppies? He will kill them!

lol sorry i copy pasted my thread from my betta setup (which is almost identical ( http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/358982-is-this-a-good-setup-for-a-betta)

and changed some of the words, i just missed the first betta lol .

nothing else is going in this tank. =)

btw all the guppies seem really happy and playfull. do u guys think i should add some sort of cave or something>?

thanks guys im glad to hear it =) they seem very happy and active

(very enjoyable to watch)

3 gallons isn't large enough for Guppy's long term.

how long is long term ? like in a year or a few years?

i secretly want to get a 10 gallon tank, but its too big for my room lol. (the only space i could fit it is on a tall ikea dresser that im not sure would support the weight)

Till they're about an inch big, how can a 10 gallon be too big? Surely you have space for a tank with a foot print of 40*30 cm?

im more concernet about the weight then the tank size. arent they supposed to be close to 100 lbs?

it would be sitting on this specifically (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10103347)

I think your setup is just fine. I'm sure you'll get a bigger setup when you want to or are able to. But I don't see anything wrong with this at all. The fish won't get all that much bigger.

(yeah id like to get one now but i dont have space in my room, i do in a side room we have but then i wouldnt see it a ton/keep up on the maintenance as well)

thanks yea do u think i should get some sorta cave for them to hide in ?

10 gallons is 36 Litres, a Litre of water has a mass of 1Kg so the mass of the water in the tank will be 36Kg, the mass of the tank and any substrate on top of this will be about 10-15Kg so in total your tank and contents will have a mass of about 45-50Kg, this is 97.5-110lb or approximately 8 stone, a good sturdy unit will be able to support a mass of about 50Kg, if you look at the Ikea stuff, most units are capable of taking 50Kg, especially TV benches.

the one i have specifically is this one : http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10103347

I wouldn't trust that personally, you could get a small table or a stand built specifically for the aquarium you wish to buy.
