i've got that insulation foamy stuff that goes under laminate floors wrapped round my jars that are on the heat mat as i found the top of the water was cold and bottom warm which is why the babies sat on bottom. It's worked!!!! Same temp right through, much warmer and no drafts,,,,,,even though some people laugh at it,,,,not mentioning any names but someone not too far from me, with lots of fish!

I decided to contact a Canadian breeder today, and order a female...I've just heard back, and I'm absolutely "flabbergasted!!!!" She says, after looking at the pic, that she wouldn't breed him at all, as she thinks he's a surgically altered fish!!! I think I've heard it all now!!! She says a WalMart fish is not worth breeding! I'm not necessarily taking her word for it. There seems to be no stock available, here, until the weather warms again in the spring. I have wasted so much time on this!!! I haven't told Robin, yet, as I think he was looking forward to a little female company!!!

If this was a fish-breeding spy novel, she'd be either the breeder or allied with the breeder of the top-secret line, discouraging you from breeding the Mistaken Cull - the Big-Time Fish That Got Away...

As already pointed out, Wall Mart isn't the place for big profits on sugically altered fish - and if someone had been practicing, such a resounding success would be on e-bay or something.

Has she refused to sell you any females, or any females from any particular lines?
That would be truly suspicious, possibly indicating similar lines in there somewhere.

If nothing else, you could cash in on the Betta craze by writing that novel...
