Hi Syphoniera...Thanks for the suggestion. Ordering from WalMart won't be an option that I trust. I do know a guy who owns an out of town store, whom I do trust. I may mention this to him, and get suggestions. He could also order whatever I want, as far as females are concerned. My Sororiety girls are probably just veiltails, or maybe Crowntails. I can't get a definite consensus on that. I do feel a responsibility now, that I don't normally feel. I've never considered breeding bettas, as it seems to be quite a commitment, with all those babies, all of which require daily water changes! Add that to my eight tanks, and you get the picture!!! I also worry that Robin is a WalMart fish, subjected to God knows what, during the shipping. I find that pet store Bettas are prone to illness. I'm checking him several times a day...looking for something! It's easier having an ordinary fish...but he is AMAZING to watch!!! Thanks for helping....
I can empathize.
Better you than me: you'll do well.
While I'd love to have fish like Robin, I wouldn't want the responsibility of having a rare type with high potential.
And I do understand the multi-tank-plus-babycare thing, speaking as one who has 10 tanks going right now, (although nearly half are 5 gal or even smaller) with a couple more (currently depressingly empty) ones to be set up (I hope) soon; I'd personally really rather not have to deal with that multi-cup thing...
And someday, perhaps, I'll buy some of the fruit of your efforts, providing the price of kidneys remains high...
No, ordering fish from WalMart doesn't sound like a reasonable choice - I was hoping it was someplace you might be able to get info so as to track the breeder, or some females from the line; and while I don't know what island you're on, I was thinking perhaps it might turn out to be a local breeder somewhere accessable.
I doubt babbling counts as help - but holy cow! what a cool fish! - and I do appreciate the tact.
Hope the fishing's fun.
Kind of a reversal, what with you hooking a fish, rather than vice versa...
sorry!!!!!
I will give you a clue though it involves the 4 ray gene and *** ******* ***** when ive got the fry old enough im gunna have 2 lines going, gunna cross these fry into a **** to see what result i get. Already got one line to be used grown out already.
it not a pure tail its a hybrid that holds 2 main sets of genetics that im using.
bet that's the cross.
There was a link a while back to a site which explained how it is done. I think it was done alot within the showing brigade.
I did examine Robin, under magnification, and I really don't think he's been "altered"....if he was, the surgeon was very very good! I have to consider that I've never bred Bettas, never really wanted to breed, and breeding may not go as the book says. It's going to be a LOT of work, and I may have a LOT of fish babies. There's always the risk that Hubby will divorce me!!! I doubt there's much of a market here, for specialty bettas. I think most people here would just as soon go to WalMart for a pet Betta, and pay less. I can't really say I blame them...I've had four Bettas from Walmart, and was quite happy with all of them. I have to say that the fish dept. at our particular store, is pretty good. The manager is quite interested in keeping the fish healthy. All of the fish in my sig. came from there, and I seldom have problems. Anyway, I'll see where it goes. I would really be interested to see what Robin can produce though......and usually, when I start thinking about something fish related, it won't let me go, until I do it!!!
