i have a rio 180 running in-built filter / pump system. i have the water flow pipes from pump directed upwards to create a rippled effect on the water surface. just sitting here wondering if i should actually have the flow directed into the tank as oppose to upwards, or does it not make any odds to the fish?

if it is just breaking the surface of the water then it is fine where you have it as when the surface is broken that is when oxygen is taken in to the water

i wondered the same.

i got my jewel tank of a friend. dismantled it at his house and bought it bak here.

spent about an hour setting the filter back up and at first we had it so the water flow out horizontally with no tube and this caused a current.

as has been sed that didnt break the surface the cos its too low down.

now i have the pipes pointing up like you so it makes a ripple and my fish breath much easier.

i do have a powerhead in there to make a bit of a current tho cos i dont like it when theres no current at all.

So can you have it like this?

that's what i figured, have it beaking surface (although not violently) and hopefully fish are getting fresh oxygen.
