Hi

I found a beautiful male lyratail swordtail in my LFS, i want to know if its ok to keep him alone, cause i don,t want any other swordtail in my tank.

Thanks

i have found them to be very social actually, my group of 8 (2 male 6 female) actually appear to 'shoal' together

I have read everywhere that they should be keep in a 1:2 ratio, but i don't want any female, but maybe i'll get some, don't really know now.

A single male swordtail in a community tank will fit in and be fine. I have plenty of examples over the years of livebearers who ended up with no other of their species in a tank. Sometimes I bought a single fish and other times I lost some fish and ended up with just one. They were always fine in a community tank.

I bought a beautiful blood red lyre tail male, and tomorrow will get 2 females, i'll try to post some pics later.

Hope you have a spare tank for fry. Your gonna have a lot. Most females from the shops are already pregnant when you purchase them.

Your lyretail is a beauty and I am enthusiastic that he may not be so deformed by the lyretail gene as to be unable to breed. He has an almost normal sized gonopodium which bodes well for you having another generation of swords in your tank.
