Is It Safe To Remove Whole Lid From Tank

Hi everyone,

I need to cut some slots into the Lid of my tank so I can fit a second External Filter, Is it safe to remove the whole lid (ie the surround that sits over the glass, with the brace attached to it)? there is no way I can cut it whilst on the tank because I dont have any room around the tank.

On sunday I will be doing my weekly 50% water change so I guess it would be best to remove the lid then? I am worried that if I remove it the whole tank will come apart at the seams

Any advice would be great.

The brace bar is there for a reason, I wouldn't remove it, cutting some slots should be fine however providing you don't remove it, just use a different tool.

Thanks, Lets just hope I can find the tool to do the job! Hardly any room to play with.
