Hi everyone, I'm getting a large tank (40-50 gallons) sometime in the future and I have a simple question:

If I am knowledgeable in carpentry and working with glass, would it be practical to just make my own aquariums and stands?

If it's impractical for someone like me to do this then that's fine, I'm just looking at my options.

-Thanks

If you are up for a project or two than absolutely. There are a few fantastic videos on youtube about building glass and acrylic tanks. I say if you have the time, go for it. Then you can build exactly what size you want. Good luck.

Stands done. In fact I have one in the next room. They are, after all, things to put things on that don't move. I tend to overengineer, but my stands work.

Tanks I've not done. I know the principle and am pretty certain I could do it. I'm even more certain that I'd struggle to make it look nice and nasty looking tanks are fairly easy to come by cheaply, so I've never bothered.

So overall, it's definitely feasible. Just remember to show us pictures and let us know how it goes, that way others can benefit from your examples.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. The whole reason I've thought of doing this is so I can get the exact aquarium I'm looking for.
If I am going to make my own aquarium I'll definitely do a journal post about it.

Many thanks.
